I find how the Half-Life 2
character controller handles to be a fantastic first person controller setup. The movement is smooth and handled amazingly. I wouldn't call it a realistic FPS controller setup but I feel a great sense of catharsis when moving around an environment. I especially love picking up nearby pickable objects and seeing my character's gun sway in their hands.
I've tried looking everywhere on the Unity asset store for free and even paid FPS-related assets for an FPS controller that handles like/similarly to HL2 but with little luck. I've tried using the Unity Standard Assets FPS controller prefab but I must confess I find it to be very clunky; abrupt starting-stopping movement, sounds cutting themselves off, etc. I have tried optimising the various parameters of it in the Inspector but it doesn't feel very in-depth. I feel the Rigid Body FPS Controller prefab handles more as I visioned but it's not without its problems.
(Ultimate First Person Shooter) kit on the Unity asset store looks amazing but $90 is a bit much for me. The Realistic FPS Prefab
kit is cheaper at $30 though I'm uncertain if it's as customisable as UFPS.
Does anybody know of any assets, plugins or packs that contain an FPS controller similar to the one in Half-Life 2? I'm looking for something that handles like it, allows the player to pick up rigidbody objects and can use weapons. I don't mind if it's not already optimized; so long as I can adjust paramaters in the inspector and have to do little coding as possible I'll be satisfied.
Comments and suggestions are appreciated.
